Antrim & Newtownabbey Branch Anniversary

On Saturday 6th September, members, both longstanding and new of the Antrim & Newtownabbey Branch gathered at Ballyclare Presbyterian Church Hall to mark a remarkable milestone: our 30th Anniversary. It was in September 1995 that a group of passionate Newtownabbey locals first came together with a shared curiosity, how to trace their family trees. Three decades later, that same spirit of discovery and connection continues to thrive.

This special afternoon was more than just a celebration, it was a heartfelt tribute to everything we’ve achieved as a Branch. A huge shout-out goes to our incredible organising committee, who transformed an ordinary Saturday into a truly memorable event. From the moment guests arrived, they were greeted by exquisite decorations, balloons, bunting, and a beautifully coordinated anniversary logo that adorned not only the banner, but also the cake, napkins, and even the charming coffee jar flower vases. No detail was overlooked, and no expense spared.

Afternoon Tea & Togetherness

Members sat eight to a table, enjoying scrumptious food and lively conversation, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. A captivating presentation played on the TV screen, showcasing cherished moments from our Branch’s history and offering a nostalgic glimpse into the world as it was in 1995.

Honoured Guests & Heartfelt Speeches

We were privileged to welcome both the Society President, Ann Robinson who played a key role in founding our Branch and our Society Chair, Martin McDowell. Their speeches honoured the visionaries who believed Newtownabbey could become a hub for family history, and paid tribute to the many volunteers who continue to give their time and talents to the Society.

Capturing the Moment

Of course, no celebration would be complete without photos! Officers, committee members, and attendees gathered for memorable snapshots that will surely become part of our Branch’s treasured archive.
To everyone who helped make this day so special, thank you. Here’s to the next chapter in our shared journey of discovery, connection, and community.
